Dr. Priyanka Mokshmar, serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of Vaayu India, contributed to a panel discussion on Economic Patriotism during the 57th SKOCH Summit: Jai Hind - Practicing Patriotism, which took place on March 23, 2019, at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi.

The discussion focused on the pivotal role played by MSMEs in the Indian economy, serving as the backbone for millions of citizens. Despite their crucial importance, the policy landscape in India has not been conducive to their growth. Although there is widespread acknowledgment of this issue, it has not translated into tangible state policies. This debate juxtaposes the constant call for patriotism with questioning the state's obligations towards its populace.

Key questions addressed in the discussion include:

1. What reforms are necessary to unlock the potential of MSMEs?
2. Why have only a limited number of MSMEs accessed capital markets?
3. Should MSMEs be transitioned to a regime with lower compliance requirements?
4. How feasible is Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to MSMEs for initiatives such as skill development and apprenticeship?

The panel was chaired by Mr. Dilip Chenoy, Secretary General of FICCI, with moderation by Dr. Gursharan Dhanjal, Managing Director & Editor of the SKOCH Group.
