In 1972, Russell Targ, along with Hal Puthoff, founded a Remote Viewing program funded by the CIA that ran for more than two decades at the Stanford Research Institute. In 2013, he was invited to give a talk for TEDx West Hollywood along with Larry Dossey and Marianne Williamson who were three speakers who caused TED to cancel its sponsorship for the whole program a couple of weeks before it was to go on. TED, to a massive outcry from the scientific community that included Nobel Prize winners, had just withdrawn talks given in London by Rupert Sheldrake and Graham Hancock from all its posted TED talks, after coming out with new standards -- defying their motto, "Ideas worth Spreading” -- of only supporting science talks that fit with our outdated materialist paradigm. Suzanne Taylor, the producer of the TEDx West Hollywood program, having lost all the sponsors when it was no longer a TED event, went ahead with the program paying for it herself.
