Coliseum Station is located in between the Northeast Edmonton communities of Eastwood and Montrose, with it spanning above 118 Avenue. Coliseum Station used to service the Northlands Coliseum - a sports coliseum where the Edmonton Oilers used to play - before it was abandoned on New Year's Eve 2017.

Coliseum Station opened in 1978 as apart of the original build-out of the Edmonton LRT. For a long time, Coliseum Station stood as a large part of the Edmonton Transit network, servicing all of the 118 Avenue routes and being the station that would be used for hockey games. The first domino fell when the Metro Line was opened in 2015, with Kingsway/Royal Alex Station taking away many of the routes Coliseum Station previously serviced. In 2016, the NHL would no longer use the Northlands Coliseum, and later in late 2017 the Northlands Coliseum would be permanently abandoned.

The area Coliseum Station is in is pretty fairly rough, crime wise both Eastwood and Montrose are worse than some of the worst communities in even cities like Chicago or Milwaukee. This may come as a surprise to most Americans as Canada has a reputation of being pretty good for crime, but Edmonton and Winnipeg stand as the exception: where Montrose and Eastwood aren't even close to being anywhere near the worst communities in Edmonton for crime. This being said, there's stations in decently worse areas than Coliseum Station such as Stadium Station, MacEwan Station, Kingsway/Royal Alex Station, and Central Station - but those stations don't have one element which hinders Coliseum Station: the largest abandoned building in Alberta standing directly next to the station. Ever since the Northlands Coliseum has shuttered, Coliseum Station has been in a downwards spiral; ridership has decreased decently, and crime and social disorder at the station has soared massively. Coliseum Station isn't the worst for social disorder - drug use, homelessness, loitering, etc - but Coliseum Station is very bad for violence and crime and stands as the worst on the Edmonton network for that. This is why in my opinion, Coliseum Station is the worst Edmonton LRT Station.
