I highly recommend this surgery to relieve hip pain in small to medium dogs. Hip pain is from inflammation caused by bone-on-bone contact in the hip joint. This is caused by the wearing away of cartilage in the joints. It is very common with all dogs but the FHO surgery is recommended mostly for small to medium size dogs because the ball joint of the femur is removed and a "false hip" is developed with rehab. The false hip is strong enough to hold the weight of a small/medium dog (about the size of Daisy) but I DON'T KNOW how it would work for a big dog. We tried the Ehmer sling before having the surgery and it was a BIG mistake. It caused complications.
I hope this helps those who need to make this decision for FHO surgery. It was expensive but well worth it. NO dog should live in constant pain because an owner can't afford the surgery or can't let go.
