In this episode, we will demonstrate a lashing which is used to bind two poles together called the Shear Lashing. The Shear Lashing can also used as an alternative to the round lashing to extend the length of poles.
Here is how to tie the Shear Lashing:
Step #1. First, form a Clove Hitch on one pole
Step #2. Wrap the rope around both poles 5 to 6 times
Step #3. Tuck the working end between the poles
Step #4. Make 2 Frapping Turns, and make sure to pull tight
Step #5. Finish with a Clove Hitch on the same pole that started the lashing. Add extra half hitches to secure the knot further if desired.
The Shear Lashing is often used as a solution to reinforce and repair broken poles, or create A-frames by spreading the two poles apart after the knot is completed. These A-frames can be used to lift objects or create the base of walkways in larger pioneering projects.
