The Sega Genesis, also known as the Sega Mega Drive in regions outside of North America, is a fourth-generation video game console that was released in 1988. It was Sega's first 16-bit console and competed directly against Nintendo's Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The Genesis featured a wide range of popular games, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star, and Mortal Kombat. It also had several peripherals, such as the Sega CD and 32X, which enhanced its capabilities. The Genesis was discontinued in 1997 but remains a beloved console among retro gaming enthusiasts.
