From 4 am on Friday, January 7, 2022, fully vaccinated travellers and under 18s returning to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will no longer have to take pre-departure tests or isolate until they get a negative Day 2 PCR test. From 4 am on Sunday, January 9, eligible fully vaccinated travellers and over 5s can take a lateral flow test instead of a PCR on or before day two of their arrival. Day 2 lateral flow tests can be booked from Friday, January 7. If the test is positive, travellers must get a confirmatory PCR test and self-isolate.
You can take your Day 2 test either on or before day two. The day you arrive will be treated as day zero. So if you arrive on Friday, you can have your LFT taken on Friday (day zero), Saturday (day one) or Sunday (day two).
The rules for unvaccinated passengers remain the same. They will need to continue to take a pre-departure test, PCR tests on day two and day eight, and self-isolate for ten days.
