Watch as thousands of grey seals come ashore to pup and mate during pupping season, from late October to early January, at Blakeney Point in Norfolk (UK)
Live footage is streamed from this camera from 9.45am-3.15pm (Greenwich Mean Time) each day and the viewing angle changes periodically. If you want to follow this stream every day through until January, bookmark this URL [ Ссылка ]
Look out for the females (cows) feeding their pups. Seal milk has a very high fat content, and the pups grow and gain weight rapidly. Their white coat is not waterproof and young pups are unable to swim for long. After several weeks the pups will start to moult and a darker, waterproof, coat appears. When the pups are approximately 3 weeks old, they will be well fattened and almost completely moulted. At this time the mothers will have been mated by the males (bulls). Many females will not have eaten during this time and return to the sea to feed, leaving the pups to fend for themselves. Until the pups develop the stamina and skills to catch fish, they survive off their fat.
Please be aware that you are watching wild animals in their natural environment. You may see live births, cows suckling their pups, bulls fighting, mating behaviour, and, occasionally, a seal that has not survived. While we monitor the seal colony closely, we have a largely non-intervention policy.
Please note, due to the remote location, breaks in the streaming service due to power failure may occur. There is no public access to the grey seal colony on Blakeney Point, so we hope the live stream gives you a feel for this amazing wildlife spectacle as it unfolds.
If you want to see the Blakeney Point seal colony in person, the only way to do this is by joining one of the seal boat trips from Morston Quay. The number of places available on the seal boats is reduced during the winter months, so advanced booking is essential. We protect and care for places so people and nature can thrive. Everyone can get involved, everyone can make a difference. Nature, beauty, history. For everyone, for ever.
