From the 1972 album "Honky Chateau." Also a top ten single and included on Greatest Hits. Bernie Taupin's lyrics speak of the country boy leaving home for the big city life. Elton's music and piano playing (on both acoustic and electric pianos) convey a feel of Dixieland, which is further carried by Davey Johnstone on banjo. Gus
Dudgeon, the producer, wrote the brass arrangement, which was played by French session musicians.
The title of the album, which was Elton's first #1 on the charts, referred to Chateau d'Hierouville, the home of Strawberry Studios in France. This was the first of three Elton John albums that were recorded there. It was also the first Elton John album to be recorded entirely with his live band, Nigel Olsson, Dee Murray and the newest member Davey Johnstone.
