At least 95 people have been killed and 130 injured, after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck China's remote Tibet region this morning. The death toll is expected to rise. Firefighters and soldiers have been deployed to assist rescue workers in a race against time to search for survivors in sub-zero temperatures. Some 50 aftershocks were recorded hours after the earthquake. The Shigatse region is home to some 800,000 people, and is the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama — one of the most important figures in Tibetan Buddhism.
