The three organizers of Hong Kong's Occupy movement said on Tuesday that they will surrender themselves to the police on Wednesday.
Benny Tai Yiu-ting, Chan Kin-man and Chu Yiu-ming held a news conference during which they called for an end to street demonstrations to prevent further violence.
Instead they said they wished to take the campaign for democratic reforms to a new stage.
Those at the protest site in Hong Kong's Admiralty district had mixed reactions to the organizers' surrender.
One woman said she doesn't want to give up on a protest she has insisted on for such a long time, while another said he did not want to see any more young people injured in the clashes that have taken place between protesters and police.
The three men - two professors and a pastor - said they plan to surrender to police to take responsibility for protests that have shut down parts of the Asian financial center for more than two months.
