We show how the re-introduction of grazing by a herd of semi-wild horses has helped turn around negative biodiversity trends, showing a way to reduce biodiversity loss and restore nature.
The restoration of side branches of the Danube river is one of the largest and boldest river restoration projects in Europe. It included a re-opening of large side branches that had been cut off from the Danube during river regulation in the late 19th century.
