Jim Bowsher has spent a lifetime creating a visionary art site of hope, compassion and love at his Wapakoneta, Ohio home - The Temple of Tolerance. In his yard is the actual Temple complex made up of massive glacial boulders mound up to form the central monument—dedicated to tolerance. Surrounding the main temple area is a stage for summer performances, the Tree of Life which was constructed by kids in the neighborhood, and a Vietnam War Memorial. As you make your trip around the Temple you will see artifacts that represent good and evil, judgement and compassion: boundary markers from a Shawnee Indian Reservation, slab steps from a Klan meeting house and so much more. There is a sense of peace and spirituality that is palpable as you leisurely stroll through this man's act of kindness, hope for compassion. The Temple of Tolerance was featured in Season 1 of Scenic Stops, a program locally produced by WBGU-TV highlighting landmarks and individuals local to Northwestern/North Central Ohio, Southern Michigan and Eastern Indiana.
