A quick look at the Sunday morning tropical update shows some waves coming off the African coast that could develop.
As of Sunday morning, the tropics are rather inactive. There is one spot to watch this week as a tropical wave moves off the coast of Africa early this week. There are currently no named storms. Long-range models keeps things quiet for the next 5 -10 days.
On Sept 10th it was the climatological peak of hurricane season. On average, by September 10, we would have had eight named storms, three hurricanes, and one major hurricane. This year continues to run below average with five named and two hurricanes. This climate information is based on a 30-year climate period. We're at the peak but we still have 2.5 months to go. So far, there has been five named storms this season which two become hurricanes
