Businesses in Melbourne's suburbs are assessing damages after an extraordinary flash flood hit the city's east.
The suburb received 65mm of rain, leading to 210 calls for help and 24 rescue calls, according to the Lilydale State Emergency Service.
The Bureau of Meteorology said Olinda Creek in Lilydale recorded 44mm of rain in 30 minutes. Tara Taylor, who owns Lefty's Barbershop in Lilydale, said on Wednesday her store is in "a total mess" with floodwaters reaching just below the knee.
"I can't explain how quickly it happened," Ms Taylor said.
"Sandbags wouldn't do anything," Ms Taylor said. The water subsided by morning and I was waiting for the visit of insurers and an electrician.
The flooding came as the Australian Disaster Relief Service began providing disaster relief assistance to Maribyrnong in west Melbourne, where several homes and businesses were flooded earlier this month after the Maribyrnong River burst its banks.
Melbourne received 117mm of rain this month, almost double the October average of 66mm, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
