Travel to Meteora Greece. After Skopje and great fun and food, we headed to Greece. Definitely one of my top 5 travel destinations in the world. Athens is our primary goal, but before Athens we went to visit Meteora... what can I say, I had never seen anything like it before, simply divine, perfect, special.

My recommendation for everyone who hasn't been is that it must be on their "must see" list. Before Meteora itself, we ate in the small town below Kalambaka and I must praise that the food was perfect. The date of our trip there was 29.12.2021, Covid-19 in full swing , we had to wear masks all the time, the distance... Greece was quite rigorous, but on the other hand we could see everything in peace and without crowds. Let's go back to Meteora and that unique beauty.
Meteora, a complex of six Orthodox monasteries, is one such miracle. It got its name from the Greek word "meteora", which in translation means floating in the air, and this is also visible in the very appearance of the monasteries located on top of the cliff. They were founded several hundred years ago, and the locals will tell you that they were built by monks who wanted to be as close to God as possible.
The appearance of Meteora is really fascinating and gives the impression that it is touching the sky. The only way to visit this holy place, where missionaries still live today, is to climb the old stairs. All the way to the top at 600 meters above sea level! The stairs are carved into the stone, and crossing an eight-meter long suspension bridge leads to the famous monastery of St. Stephen. The first monks in this area appeared in the 11th century, but they started building monasteries in such inaccessible locations only in 1453 due to concerns about the Ottoman conquest of the region. The monasteries are located in the northwestern part of the Thessalian plain, near the town of Kalambaka, where only 12 thousand inhabitants live. Today, the Meteora monasteries are under the protection of UNESCO, and the Republic of Greece declared them a "Holy Place" in 1995. Determined in their purpose, the monks carried building materials to the top of the rocks for years, using ropes, nets and sacks on their backs.
Here are some facts... now we continue our journey through mystical Greece towards Athens.
