Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Camber hanging-style four bike rack on our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. Now our Thule bike rack is going to allow us to carry up to four bikes with us so we can take our family, our kids, our friends with us and we're not going to take several different vehicles. Now since this is a hanging style bike rack, it's going to hold our bike at three different points. We'll have two on the top cross tube here. And then we're also going to have one on the vertical support and that's going to be our anti-sway. It's going to prevent the bike from rocking back and forth too much and making bike-to-bike contact. But let's go ahead and remove the bike and take a closer look.If we come to the straps here, we just push on the tab and pull the straps out.
And if we look close at the tabs, we can see it's got this rubber strips on there, so we know that our bike's going to be protected and it's not going to hurt the finish. We can grab our bike and we'll set it aside for right now. And with our bike removed, we can take a closer look at the cradles here. We can see the material inside is going to help protect our bike, keep it secure, but the grooves in here are also going to help with that, but they're there in case we have any kind of brake cables, so they can sit in there and not get damaged. Now, each one of these cradles is going to be seven inches apart, and that's going to be an optimum space for putting your bikes on, not have to worry about the pedals clashing or the handlebars getting in the way of each other.Being able to take four bikes with us is a great thing, but as you can see, it's going to be adding quite a bit to the back of our Santa Fe. So, I'd like to give you a few measurements.
If we go to the very back of the bumper, when we find the furthest point on our rack, it's going to be right about 42 inches. Now, at the closest point it's going to be at the back of the mast here, that's going to be right about five and a half inches. So, we've got a good amount of clearance. Now, as far as ground clearance go, the lowest point of our rack's going to be down here and that's going to be right about 10 inches. Now, if we're parking our Santa Fe, we need to pull in the garage, need a little bit more space, we can come to the lever at the top of the mast back here, we lift it up, and then we can actually rotate the arms down to take up some of that space. And you can see it's a lot more compact now.
If we measure the same point on the back of the bumper, we're only going to be adding about 10 and a half inches. So, it did make quite a bit of difference. Now, I know we've all been there before. We get where we're going, unload our bikes, get ready to ride, and we forgot something in the back hatch. Nobody wants to go in the front seat, try to climb through, and nobody wants to take their bike rack out just to get back here. But Thule has put another lever here at the bottom of the mast.
If we lift that up, we can actually tilt our bike rack away, which will give us full access to the rear hatch so we can get wherever we need in or out. Once we get what we need, we'll close the hatch back up, and we can grab our bike rack and it we'll just lift it back up and we'll hear it click and lock back into position. The Camber's going to work with an inch and a quarter and two inch hitches. You can see the sleeve here that's going to allow it to go into a two inch receiver. But if you have another vehicle that has a smaller hitch, chances are, this will fit in there as well. Thule has also included a threaded hitch pin to take out that slop and slack from the receiver tube so we don't get any of that rattling when we're driving down the road.Let's go ahead and take a look at it on our test scores. Up first is going to be our slalom, which is going to simulate side to side action, like evasive maneuvering, or taking a sharp turn. And now our alternating speed bumps, which is going to simulate driving over uneven pavement like potholes. Now, we're onto the solid speed bumps, which is going to simulate the up and down action, like going over a speed bump or pulling into your driveway. That'll finish up your look at the Thule Camber hanging-style four bike rack on our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe..
