Well we sure did not expect this to happen. Tim and myself went looking for a cellar hole that is most likely abandoned from the 1800s way out in the woods of New Hampshire. We had no problem finding the site and started metal detecting. With 15 seconds of Tim turning on his Garrett ATGOLD detector he had a super strong high tone signal.....! whoa
Quickly he digs up his very first SLQ Standing liberty quarter from 1920 right out of the cellar hole. WOW ! so we figure maybe a hunter or logger dropped it many years ago, maybe not. Within seconds we are finding all kinds of wheat pennies one right after another but still no relics from the cellar hole. As time goes on we are digging up more silver coins like mercury dimes, 1920, 1941 and they are in beautiful condition. Then Tim gets a scratchy 75 signal and digs up a coin that turns out to be a 1912 French Republic 5 centimes. But the thing that makes this site not right is there are barely any relics, only two old buttons in total.
Other highlights finds are a dropped pocket knife that has the name Casey engraved on it and a WWII Ordnance button from the us ARMY. Days like this don't happen very often when we dig up more coins than relics. Buffalo nickel, war nickel and a handful of wheat pennies.
