Greta Thunberg has been detained in Germany after joining activists in a protest against a coal mine.
The 20-year-old Swede was pictured being carried by police off the site in Luetzerath where a village is set to be destructed to make way for the fossil fuel plant.
From a makeshift campsite she joined activists on Friday and tweeted: “We are currently in Lützerath, a German village threatened to be demolished for an expansion of a coal mine. People have been resisting for years.”
Ms Thunberg was one of several campaigners to have been carried away by police after clashes with the officers. It is understood that police had been concerned for safety with protestors close to the edge of the Garzweiler open pit mine.
