When you get a cut, the body forms blood clots to assist and stop the bleeding. It is the proteins in the blood called fibrins that work with platelets, to create the clot. It is called coagulation, which helps the body when an injury occurs because it slows blood loss.
Sometimes, the blood clots too much, and this is called hypercoagulation. It can then travel throughout the body in your blood which can be dangerous. It can form in vital organs or travel to them, including the brain and heart, which can cause serious health problems, even death.
