Hi just a few things , Babbitt is the American name for white metal bearing material though I do believe it is not of such a high quality as white metal . I would of definitely reused the original con rods had it not been for the rather large missing piece of Babbitt material , the loss of any oil pressure on these engines is a bad deal especially as they're only designed to run with a oil pressure of around 10 to 15 Psi . One little tip if your model B engine seems to be throwing oil out of its mains bearings one thing to do is check the oil pressure if it's to high it will escape , remember the oil pressure is adjustable . I have actually found a company that can remetal these older style of rods in the UK at a reasonable price . The metal backed bearing style of rod is fitted in the model 50 John Deere ,the B replacement , they all have the same stroke just a larger bore . I was having a moment regarding end float on the camshaft it is in fact the gear end bearing that has the paper shims under it to adjust end float , it will become clear when I start rebuilding the engine . If I had not made it clear that square coupling I mention on the oil pump drive was " to save the pump should the oil become frozen due to water contamination of the oil in frosty conditions " some how I don't think John Deere thought that one through should the engine start and the operator did not notice there was no oil pressure , on the other hand they probably thought that will teach you to change your oil a bit more regularly . Regular oil changes are still the cheapest service you can give any engine , oops sounds like I am preaching , on that note I'll shut up !! . Enjoy all the best .
