(24 Feb 2019) Members of Brazil's national security force formed a line along the border with Venezuela on Sunday to prevent protesters from clashing with the Venezuelan National Guard.
They appealed for calm on the part of the Venezuelan soldiers and urged protesters and journalists to move back amid fresh clashes on the border.
Dozens of Venezuelans in the border city of Pacaraima on Sunday began throwing rocks across the closed border at Venezuelan troops, who responded with tear gas and buckshot.
Meanwhile, two Venezuelan National Guard sergeants who sought refuge in Brazil on Saturday night, abandoning President Nicolas Maduro's forces, spoke to journalists in Pacaraima.
Jorge Luiz Gonzalez Romero and Jean Carlos Cesar Parra said humanitarian aid should be allowed to enter Venezuela.
