McDonald's famous golden arches were being removed at a branch of the fast food restaurant in Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty, on Friday (January 6), after the fast food giant's business appeared to fall victim to collateral damage from Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine.
On January 5 the restaurant's Kazakh licensee said it would no longer operate under the brand "due to supply issues".
The brand's exit from the Central Asian nation of 20 million divided opinion on social media and among onlookers near one of the Almaty restaurants where workers were taking down the large white letters from the top of the building.
