The Taliban have announced a ceasefire with the Afghan government that will start from Sunday as Eid begins. The move was welcomed by President Ashraf Ghani after a rise in attacks by the hardline Islamist group in recent weeks. This is the third time that the Taliban have declared a temporary truce since the conflict began. A similar ceasefire was announced for Eid in 2018 but was not extended.
