There are no tropical threats to the Gulf of Mexico and just one active storm in the Atlantic as of Tuesday night.
That one storm is Sam which after days is still going strong as a major hurricane. It is forecast to remain a major hurricane through Saturday. It will curve north around a ridge of high pressure and stay well east-northeast of the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean Sea. It will likely pass east of Bermuda this weekend.
A couple of waves coming off of Africa this week have a high chance of developing in five days. If they do develop, the next names would be Victor and then Wanda. They would be our 20th and 21st named storms this season. It's too early to say what will happen since they haven't formed yet, but indications are that they could curve north over the Atlantic early or weaken near the Caribbean Sea.
A final spot, the remnants of Tropical Storm Peter, has a chance of re-forming this week. It would stay out over the open ocean.
