This is the first movement of Pietro Yon's First Religious Organ Suite for Advent, containing movements for different parts of the Mass, mostly based upon plainchant themes. Here, the wonderful Advent chant "Rorate Coeli" (Drop down, ye heavens, from above... sometimes known as the Advent Prose), with full organ alternating with a single Swell stop, making balancing levels somewhat tricky!
This recording was made on a Johannus Live III AGO organ, using the sample of the fine Hill organ in the church of the Holy Name, opposite the University of Manchester on Oxford Road, Manchester (the organ case is pictured at the beginning and end of the video). The sample sets can be heard from four positions: console, front of the church, centre of the church, rear of the church. This recording uses the rear of the church position, affording the most generous recording of the wonderful acoustic in this fine building.
