After earning his doctorate from Stanford at the age of 23, stem cell biologist Kyle Loh, PhD, continued investigating one of the biggest questions in biology: how embryonic stem cells are able to develop into different types of cells—and if those cells can be used to regenerate living tissue. It turns out they can: Dr. Loh has “grown” precursors of blood vessels, bone, and heart tissue from stem cells in his lab. Hear how this erstwhile child prodigy is now using regenerative medicine to transplant these organoids into mouse models—a preliminary but transformative step in creating stem cells that may one day be used to repair damaged organs and tissue.
