Churchill Downs has been home to the Kentucky Derby since 1875, and hosts (3) MAJOR horse racing events each year.
The blessing of being retired and full-time RV is that when you stumble across places like this, at the right time, you have the opportunity to see and experience things that you might never otherwise have done. We just happened to be in the area, on the week FOLLOWING the Kentucky Derby, when 165,000 people were there! We had room to spare, did not have any lines to stand in for food, drinks or the restroom! Our seats in the viewing stands that we used after our behind the scenes tour, were included in the price of our tour, which was around $100 per person. IT WAS SO WORTH IT.
We learned how the whole operation worked, visited the horse stable and training area, got up close and personal with the portable starting gate semi-trailer on the opposite side of the track, watched four actual "real" races start from the gate and sat in seats that were $10,000 the week prior!
