Moving along on the Jeep Wrangler JK King of the Hammers build, its time to start our Roll Cage! A roll cage is one of the most important parts of a vehicle that will see high speeds and large rocks. In this video, we go over some of the rules and specs in regards to Ultra4 rollcages. We start off with our main structure and design of the roll cage, allowing us to continue on with structural crossmembers and other tie ins such as seat mounting, shock and suspension mounting, radiator mounting, and much more.
We are using 2" .120" wall DOM tubing since its very likely we will be approaching the 4,440lb limit. We can use 1.75" tubing in certain sections to keep weight down, and that will be covered in the second Roll Cage video.
Terminations to the frame need to be solid and secure. We are using the Barnes4WD Leaf Spring Outriggers in all 6 locations, giving us a solid base and a wide footprint offset of the frame to give us plenty of interior clearance. Using solid bushings with machined aluminum inserts and tabs, we can easily remove the cage during the build, and finalize the cage by welding them fully in. This still allows "easier" removal of the cage in the future if needed, without affecting the cage height or structural integrity.
There are quite a few Jeep Wrangler Roll cages on the market, and they are great options however they are mostly designed around the factory interior panels, and do not meet Ultra4 roll cage technical specs.
