There will be a series of rudiments here we'll encounter called diddle rudiments, and the term diddle means double. And what you'll see is that you're going to experience rudiments like power diddle and double power diddle and so on and so forth. And because of the term diddle means double, you’re talking about a single stroke, a single stroke, and two strokes on one side of your body, or a double stroke, para diddle, and then the opposite side of your body, para diddle.
And as with other rudiments we usually lead on the strong side of our body right hand first. Or for you lefties, left hand first, and then this one does alternate. So you'll be doing a series of notes para diddle, para diddle, and then they'll alternate back and forth. I'll start it off slow, I'll speed it up a little bit, and then I'll show you how it alternates from side to side.
The way I just played those para diddles had accents on the first notes of each grouping. That's probably the most common way to play this, however you may want to practice it with either accents all the way through or no accents at all. Just to work on alternating strokes all the way through. But either way, it's right left right right, followed by a left right left left, or the reverse for left handed drummers.
