Silca’s Josh Poertner has spent a lot of time over the years developing products for use on the cobbles of Paris Roubaix, including the first ever carbon wheels to finish, and then win, the race. However, as he explains to Saddleback in this video, emulating the ways of the most successful teams isn’t as easy as it might seem.
After all, developing that wheel was a three or four year process, during which Poertner’s team broke over 100 wheels and spent upwards of 200 hours testing product, trying to get a feel for what worked and why it worked. The mistake the less successful teams make is to assume that they can see how something is being done, when there’s more to the process than meets the eye.
