Please watch in HD. This music box plays 8 tunes (airs) and each one has its own ethereal sound. As per design of all of these single cylinder multi-tune music boxes, the cylinder rotates and moves slightly leftward for the entire duration of the 8 airs enabling different pins to strike the comb with each rotation of the cylinder. At the end of the 8 tunes, you will hear the mechanism reset back to the right with a "clunk" and then begin to replay. We allowed you to see the cylinder shift and also hear this reset before shutting off the music box. The music box winds with 8 cranks of the lever on the left side and so this would be one crank per tune. As you can see with the closeup, there are thousands of pins on the brass cylinder that strike the comb over the duration of play. Historically this music box would have been manufactured in Geneva and time-wise, would coincide with shortly after the Civil War here in the USA. Amazing Swiss precision and technology considering the lack of modern metal or woodworking equipment. Each one of the thousands of pins on the cylinder need to be precisely positioned for the accurate musical result which you can hear, appreciate, and enjoy.
