MANY SEE JOINING an elite frm like McKinsey to be the end of their journey. They celebrate and assume the hard work is all done. The reality is that joining a frm is just the beginning of an incredible journey. When you applied to McKinsey you were up against just a handful of capable applicants, who are likely to receive offers. You were also up against a greater majority of relatively weaker applicants who were not likely to receive an offer. Once you join a firm like McKinsey, the pool resets and you are now up against much stronger peers. You will need to study even harder to have a skillset to compete with them.
