The Castellamaresse War for control of the American Mafia officially ended when Lucky Luciano led a conspiracy with his fellow gangsters to assassinate the new boss of bosses Salvatore Maranzzano. But rather then assume the title he just made recently vacant he set up a new American inspired structure of a board of directors for organized crime.
They called it the Commission and its role was to mediate and settle disputes between America’s twenty-one recognized crime families. It was established with seven members, the seven most powerful bosses in the country. It centered around the five families of New York while Buffalo and Chicago also had a seat.
In this video we will explore all seven of the original members. Some had incredibly short tenures while others held their seats for decades. Some are well documented because they were famous during their times while others managed to stay out of the lime light and we know little about them today. But all of them had one thing in common: a ruthless ambition that brought them to the top.
