The Sacré Coeur is a Roman Catholic church located in Paris, France.
Construction began in 1875 under the direction of architect Paul Abadie and was completed in 1914.
It is built in Romano-Byzantine style with a white dome that is visible throughout the city.
It was built on the top of the Montmartre hill, the highest point in the city, to overlook and honor the city for penance after the Franco-Prussian war.
The basilica has one of the largest mosaic works in the world called Christ in Majesty which portrays a 20 meter tall Jesus.
The crypt contains a relic of Saint Denis, the first bishop of Paris who was martyred.
Today it is one of the most visited monuments in Paris with millions of visitors each year who enjoy its beautiful architecture and panoramic views of the city.
