A Sacred sapling Bo (Bodhi) tree was planted by Most Venerable Madihe Pannaseeha Maha Nayake Thera on Vesak Day, May 1994 at Lankarama premises at No 27, Asquith Road, Auburn. After going through a whole effort of trying to find the spiritual meaning for his life, the Lord Buddha sat under the shade of a bodhi tree in India and stayed there until he had this experience where he obtained enlightenment – Buddhism was born from that moment – 2582 years ago. The Bodhi Tree ("tree of awakening"), also called the Bodhi Fig Tree or Bo Tree.

Also, symbolising this event, the president of Sri Lanka gifted a white marble buddha statue to Lankarama and it was placed at Lankarama Bodhi tree on the same day.
