You will need to located the utilities such as water and electricity and get those utilities to the building site.

Is the site covered with trees and thick brush? Then you will have to pay to have the land cleared. Is the lot buildable as is or is it full of rock? What is the zoning? Does it perc for as many bedrooms as you want?

There are lot of factors to consider when it comes to buying land to build a house. The vast majority of the time and costs of buying land and building a house make it too expensive for most people, especially first-time buyers.
