Welcome to this virtual walking tour of Whitby, a town located on the North Yorkshire coast in England. This virtual walking tour will take you on a virtual tour of the town.
Our journey starts at Langbourne Road car park, a convenient location for visitors who wish to explore the town on foot.
As you make your way through on this virtual walk in the heart of the town, you will see Langbourne Road with its colorful buildings, and the street's charming atmosphere that will set the tone for the rest of the journey. Walking down Langbourne Road, you will find numerous shops and cafes, making it an ideal spot to stop for a coffee or to browse the local stores.
From here, the virtual walking tour will take a left turn onto , which runs along the harbor and offers spectacular views of the river Esk and the North Sea. The sea breeze and the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below will make for a truly immersive experience.
As you make your way towards the bridge, you will encounter several notable landmarks, including the Whitby Lifeboat Station, which has been saving lives at sea for over two centuries. Once you reach the bridge, you will be able to enjoy the fantastic views of the harbor and the town, and see the boats and ships docked at the quay.
Crossing over the iconic Whitby Bridge, on this walking tour you will find yourself on Sandgate Street, a bustling street that offers an array of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Sandgate Street is also home to the old town hall, a magnificent building that has stood the test of time and remains a testament to the town's rich heritage.
Continuing along Sandgate Street, you will eventually arrive at Tate Hill Pier, a historic landmark that is a popular spot for fishing and boating enthusiasts. The pier is a picturesque location that offers fantastic views of the harbor, and it is an ideal spot for taking pictures and enjoying the sea breeze.
From here, the journey takes us up to Donkey Road, which runs parallel to the famous 199 steps leading to the Church of St. Mary's. Donkey Road is a quaint street that is full of character, and it provides a peaceful and serene environment for walking. As you walk along this road, you will be able to take in the stunning views of the sea, which provide a tranquil and awe-inspiring experience.
As we virtual walk towards the Church of St. Mary's, you will notice that the sea is now behind you, and in front of you stands the iconic Whitby Abbey. This impressive ruin dominates the skyline and is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the town. The abbey has a fascinating history that spans over 1,400 years, and visitors can explore the ruins and learn about the abbey's historical significance.
The walking tour will then take you through the Church of St. Mary's graveyard, which provides a serene and peaceful environment to reflect and take in the views of the sea. Cholmley House is a beautiful and historic building located on the West Cliff of Whitby, and it has played a significant role in the town's history.
