We often get asked what our personal opinion is between the biothane products that we offer and their leather counterparts ... Simply put, one's own preference. However, I am happy to share why you may choose one over the other.
Immediately you'll find that biothane, "out of the box", is an amazing product. It feels similar to, and has the flexibility of, broken in leather. Surprisingly to some, biothane performs wonderfully under extreme conditions (think desert/sand, beach/ocean, mountains/snow, etc.). It can also withstand scorching and/or freezing temperatures, through which it remains mildew resistant and easy to clean. All around, it's a great alternative to leather, with a comfortable feel, low maintenance, and outstanding strength and durability.
With that said ...
I grew up on a ranch and still remember the first time someone handed me leather reigns, a saddle, and a nice leather belt. Since that day, I personally have always preferred leather gear (leashes, collars, boots, belts, etc). Leather has life in it. It molds to your curves, your form and function. Every time you sweat into it, every time the dirt hits, dog slobber added, grease and grime... Leather becomes personal (at least for me). I still have the first 6' leather leash that I bought from Ray Allen (go figure), and to this day I still prefer it over anything else. The feel, the strength, the quality... To some, there is no alternative to that!
As much as I can detail the benefits and reasons for one over the other, at the end of the day it boils down to personal preference. Leather may need a little extra care and maintenance, but you can't beat the durability when cared for properly.
