LyricScope
It is always exciting to share our thoughts on certain compositions with our Rasikas . That is why we thought of presenting BATUREETIKOLU.

Thanks to you all for the response we got , we felt that we could start a short series “LyricScope” where we can have a peep into a few compositions and their meaning and the Raga etc. Very happy to partner with other talented artists in this journey. Hope you will all enjoy this !
SASHIVADANA - RAGA CHANDRAJYOTHI BY THYAGARAJA SWAMI
This composition in the Raga Chandrajyothi has remained favourite for many reasons.
First - the Raga Chandrajyothi seems to have been an exclusive gem from the Thyagaraja Swami's Chest of treasures. He has made the Raga sparkle in Bagayanayya and Sashivadana both remain a delight for musicians and rasikas alike.
Chandrajyothi can be traced to Pavani (41st mela )or Navanitam (42nd Mela) since it omits the Nishada, a Vivadi combination of swaras give that mystic, deep and enchanting feeling.
(we have touched on Vivadhi Ragas in the Mela karta Episode of A Carnatic Journey ACJ with GV which is in the playlist of this channel)

Second - the song is a veritable prayer that can be chanted everyday.
Why ? because it answers so many of our questions.
Bhakthi and devotion with utmost focus can reduce the confusion and problems in our daily lives.
Third - The genius that he is Thyagaraja Swami touches on various stories from Mythology in his compositions , this is one of them.
Last but not least I just love the flow of this composition and as artists this Raga can give us an exhuberant yet calm but exciting feel, that is common to most vivadhi Ragas and we enjoy elaborating this Raga.
Upasana Govindarajan speaks to us through her ART. For Shashivadana she has created three illustrations.
Don’t miss the Solar Dynasty mark on Sashivadana Rama!
Also little Hanuman jumping to catch his favourite Sun Lord Rama who looks shines like the autumn full moon to Thaygaraja Swami.
Little Rama saving the Muni Yaga happily.. Upasana has here made it really look like child’s play !
The very poignant meaning of the charana is bought out in the third Illustration.
