We had quite the unexpected variety on Monday 15th April, as a lot of different trains were seen at Newport (South Wales), ranging from passenger services, freight trains, light locos and maintenance units.
For most of the day, Great Western Railway and CrossCountry services had to use Platforms 1 and 4, because of some maintenance work going on with the service lift on Platform 2/3. So, until the lift was working again, Platform 2/3 was not in use for anyone for most of the day.
Two highlights of the day down at Newport (South Wales) were both Locomotive Services D1944 (47501) 'Craftsman' working from Crewe to Alexandra Dock Jnc on driver training duty, and DB 60091 & 66099 top and tailing a steel freight train.
By the late afternoon, Platform 2/3 was back in working order again, and both GWR and CrossCountry services were back to working in their usual platforms.
