Today we discuss about the very beautiful gem stone that we called ‘Garnet’ (Rabaha). There are many types of garnet gems. So, let’s discuss about these types of garnet gems and the places where we can find it.
First we discuss about ‘Hessonite’ gem stone. There are many kinds of hessonite gem stones. I will discuss about four types of hessonite gems. First one is ‘Spessartite garnet (Rathna Gomeda)’ which is orange to orange-red in color gem stone and it is very rare to find within Sri Lanka. We can easily find this spessartite garnet Madagascar. The second one is Ela gomedha. We can find this from Katharagama area and most of the time these kind of gem stones with fouls. Third one is ‘Kahata gomedha’ which can be found at Rathnapura area. Finally the hessonite garnet which is used in astrology. This is red and brown color gem stone.
You can buy spessartite garnet from the Hangamuwa area at Rathanapura Elapatha region. We can find ela ghomedha from Rathnapura and Katharagamna area. Kahata gomedha is in many areas specially in Ambilipitiya area. Hessonite gemstone is very popular gemstone which can be found at Kiri Ella, Niwithigala, Ayagama, Kehelowita areas. We can find hessonite gems stone without any damage from Balngoda and Kamburupitiya areas. Let’s talk about garnets gemstones.
now we discuss about garnets which are finding from Sri Lanka and foreign countries. Red garnet, Almandine garnet, Rhodolite garnet Satr garnet.
‘Mali garnets’ which is can be found in foreign countries rather than in Sri Lanka. Another one is ‘Color Change Garnets’ are rare and highly desirable for collectors and it is in different specimens. Next one is ‘Tsavorite garnet’ which is very rare to find in Sri Lanka. We can find Tsavorite garnet from Madagascar and African countries. Let’s talk the areas where we can find these garnets.
we can find rhodolite garnets from Rathnapura, Kahawaththa and Ehaliyagoda areas. Almandine garnet is in Ambilipitiya and Godakawela areas. Red garnet is in Ayagama, Niwithigala and Kuruwita areas.
Mali garnet which is very rare gem stone. As their name implies, this variety is discovered in the West African country of Mali. Tsavorite garnets are sometimes confused with demantoid garnets because of their color. We can buy tsavorite garnets from Rathnapura and Elahara gem markets very rarely. If anyone wish to buy this gem stone can go to Beruwala gem market or Colombo gem market.
Color change garnet is in Elahara and Rathnapura areas. Be careful when you buy garnet gem stones. Because there may be a color change garnet. These garnets are high valued garnets. Let’s talk how to buy gem stones from Elahara area.
