The highlight of every Onam sadhya or meal is the payasam. Today's Onam recipe is the Kadala Parippu Payasam or Chana Dal Payasam. I have shown you how to make it the traditional way by adding Coconut milk. I have given you in this video a demo on how to extract the first and second coconut milk from freshly grated coconut. I have added organic jaggery but you can use any jaggery of your choice. Finally, I have also added some fried cashew nuts, raisins and coconut pieces. This Kerala style Kadala Parippu Pradhaman will I believe help you to celebrate Onam in typical Kerala style.
Ingredients in the order of instructions:
2 tsp Ghee
1 cup Chana Dal/Kadala Parippu
1 cup Water
1 cup Jaggery powder
1 cup Water
1 freshly grated Coconut
1 cup Lukewarm Water
2 cups Lukewarm Water
2 tbsp Sabudana/Sago (optional)
1 tsp Elaichi/Cardamom powder
1/2 tsp Cumin/Jeera powder
1/2 tsp Sonth/Dry Ginger powder
2 tsp Ghee
A handful of Coconut pieces
A handful of Cashew nuts
A handful of Raisins
