There is a lot of confusion in Canada right now as the government removes legal tender status from 5 Bills that haven't been in circulation since at least 1996 and some were only ever made in 1935. People all over Canada, including some bank tellers, are under the impression that these bills will be worthless or have no value after Jan 1st 2021. This is just simply not true.

You will always be able to return your money to the Bank of Canada and your local banks for the value that is on the face of the bill. However, a lot of those bills are collectible and could be worth significantly more than Face value. So get them checked before you turn them in.
