Shouf Cedar Reserve is considered the biggest Nature Reserve in Lebanon. It consists of three main Cedar Reserves including Barook Reserve, in addition to other kinds of forests.
Shouf Reserve covers 1/3 of the Lebanese National Reserve of Cedars, and is considered the Major National reserve since it contains the real Cedar tree (age:3000 years) which is drawn in the National Flag of Lebanon.
These forests are recognized by the short but wide Body Cedar trees and which are significantly older in age than other reserves. And they are also recognized by their dry dark Green Color unlike the Cedars in the North which are long, narrow Body and are wet light green.
The story of Cedars in Lebanon dates back to the deep history of the region which is dominated by Wars which resulted in the over-consumption of the Cedars of Lebanon in favor of making War Ships since Cedar wood is among the toughest and strongest to act as armor for soldiers and their ships.
