Pongal is a delicious South Indian porridge made with rice and yellow moong lentils. It is also known as Ven Pongal or Khara Pongal. It is made during the popular Pongal / Sankrathi Festival. It can be served as breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. As this is the Avarekalu/Hyacinth beans season I have included it for this recipe.
Ingredients
Moongdal/lentils-1/2 cup
Rice-1/2 cup
Avarekalu/Hyacinth beans-1 cup
Oil 3-4 spoon
Mustard seeds-1 spoon
Jeera-1/2 spoon
Black pepper-1 spoon
Chopped ginger-1 spoon
Chopped green chili
Chopped coconut
Cashew nut
Curry leaves
Hing-1/4 spoon
Turmeric powder-1/4 spoon
Salt as per taste
