On today's Newshour with Padmaja Joshi, we salute all the Padma Awardees 2021.
President Ram Nath Kovind confers the Padma Awards 2021 in the Rashtrapati Bhavan today. This year, President will present 119 Padma Awards. There are seven Padma Vibhushan awards, ten Padma Bhushan awards, and 102 Padma Shri awards on the list. There are 29 women awardee, 16 posthumous awardees, and one transgender awardee. At the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Ram Nath Kovind gave the Padma Awards to Olympian PV Sindhu, actor Kangana Ranaut, filmmaker Karan Johar, producer Ekta Kapoor, and women's hockey team captain Rani Rampal.
Late BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, as well as musician SP Balasubramaniam, received the award posthumously. The top civilian prizes went to producer vocalists Suresh Wadkar and Adnan Sami, Hindustani classical exponent Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, former ICMR chief scientist Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, and Air Marshal Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay.
