Hey y’all!! Longish time no see.
An original song... LIVE! I was nervous! But only a little bit.
I spend so much time practicing and preparing (and marketing… I hate marketing) for these live shows I have less time to record covers. I also happen to be in rehearsals for 2 plays right now. And working and scoring a short film! Life is a little crazy right now and youtube is a part of that but I will never take the community I have here for granted. You all are always so supportive and funny and nice and I love posting here just to be able to talk to you folks in the comments and hear your thoughts and stories.
Also - good to know you guys are interested in a youtube live! Maybe at some point this month or next .... :o
There’s going to come a point where I become more comfortable performing live and I can put a little more time back into recording for youtube again. I wish you could all come see the live shows but that’s the downside to having so many of you lovely people all over the place! So I thought I’d bring a bit of the show to you and post one of the songs on my set here.
Though - some of you Canadians came to my show on the 2nd this month! So amazing again to see you in person and talk and hang out! I have another show coming up this month March 22nd that I'll post about soon on my youtube community page.
It’s an original I wrote November of last year. It’s actually gone through a couple changes since I performed it here… So here’s a version of Bluetown! I won’t explain what the lyrics mean, as they mean something specific to me but I’m sure you can all get your own things out of them. Generally it’s the feeling of it being hard to find home and familiarity again after being somewhere else for so long.
VERSE 1
It’s been more than a minute
I’ve gone more than mile
And It feels like I haven’t
Been home in a while
And the leaves blew through the door
They settled on the floor
While I was gone
VERSE 2
And I slept through this morning
And there went the day
Left me at sunrise
Sailed away
I’ve been standing at the shore
Just like I did before
To see again
CHORUS
I live in a blue, blue town
Always watching the sun go down
And there is no one around
To see me sigh
And all the blackbirds are standing still
On the roofs and the window sills
As they stare with their silent chilly
Eyes
Bluetown
Bluetown
VERSE 3
It’s been more than a minute
And year after year
I hate that you haven’t
Been here
All the pipes began to rust
As all the floors have gathered dust
You slipped away
I almost remember
When you last spoke to me
Under the strands of
A willow tree
And I wanna know if that was the end
Or if I went back again
There you would be
CHORUS
Save me from this blue, blue town
Always watching the sun go down
And never a soul around
To see me sigh
And all the blackbirds are standing still
On the roofs and the window sills
As they stare with their silent chilly
Eyes
Bluetown
Bluetown
VERSE 4
So dust off the cobwebs
Sweep up the leaves
Open the windows
Feel the breeze
BRIDGE
Would it be such a crime
To turn on a dime
And cut my way in line
To feel, one more time,
Homeward bound
CHORUS
To get me out of this blue, blue town
Always watching the leaves turn brown
And never a soul around
To see me sigh
And all the blackbirds are standing still
On the roofs and the window sills
As they stare with their silent chilly
Eyes
Bluetown
Bluetown
Thanks for listening :)
