St John Ambulance's Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Carol Trigg, who has provided hundreds of hours of first aid support at events in her 45 years at the organisation, and despite serious loss of her vision in 2012, has continued as a trainer, to ensure more people can save lives with first aid. The star-studded awards, held at the Lancaster London hotel on 26 March 2014, celebrate the nation's life savers and their incredible first aid achievements.

We believe that it’s absolutely unacceptable that so many people die needlessly – because no one could give them first aid when they needed it.
St John Ambulance teaches people first aid – about 800,000 last year alone – so that they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
As a charity, we’re committed to making sure more people can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. To do that, we need your help. For more information visit www.sja.org.uk
