Since the establishment of the State of Israel, one Arab woman has been elected mayor. The situation in national politics isn't much better: only 3 Arab women have served as members of Israel's Knesset.
The Abraham Fund Initiatives recently studied the reasons for the sharp decline in Arab voter participation rates over the past decade. Integrating women into politics would increase the voting percentage by 50% among Arab women and 28% among Arab men. 70% of the survey participants agreed that "women are just as good political leaders as men."
